In a bid to intensify efforts against the growing drug menace, Gaurav Dhir, the Station House Officer (SHO), Phagwara, organised an awareness seminar on Friday aimed at educating the public, particularly the youth, about dangers of drug addiction and the legal consequences associated with narcotic offences.

The seminar, attended by students, local residents and community leaders, focused on sensitising participants to the harmful physical, psychological and social impacts of the substance abuse.

SHO Dhir, while addressing the gathering, underscored the critical role of public cooperation in the police’s mission to eradicate drugs from the community. “Drug abuse not only destroys individuals, but also tears apart families and communities,” the SHO said, urging attendees to report drug-related activities and support those seeking recovery from addiction.

Information was also shared about government-backed rehabilitation centres, helpline numbers and support mechanisms available for individuals battling addiction.

Participants were encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles and serve as ambassadors of awareness within their own communities. The SHO emphasised that preventive education and timely intervention remain key strategies in the war against drugs.
