A controversy has erupted in Kapurthala over the alleged unauthorised deployment of police security for a US-based NRI, raising questions about political influence and misuse of state resources.

Former AAP halka in-charge Manju Rana has alleged that AAP in-charge Karamvir Singh Chandi deployed two armed personnel for the security of Shamsher Singh Bal during his stay in the city from October 25 to November 18.

According to Rana, the two personnel, allegedly carrying AK-47 rifles, were taken from Kotwali and Sadar Police Stations without official orders or administrative approval and were deputed with the NRI for nearly a month.

She claimed this arrangement was carried out for personal gain and illegal gratification, highlighting potential violations of the Arms Act and misuse of the authority.

Rana also stated that when she approached the SSP with evidence, no satisfactory explanation was provided, though the SHO of Sadar Police Station reportedly admitted to providing a guard only for two days. Chandi, however, has strongly denied the allegations, asserting that he did not have any gunmen assigned to him and rejected the claims of unauthorised security arrangements.

SSP Gaurav Toora confirmed that the issue was under inquiry, assuring that the process will follow once the facts are established. The case has intensified political tensions within AAP in Kapurthala, with local residents, questioning whether the incident reflects administrative oversight, political pressure or systemic loopholes allowing unauthorised privileges.
