Under the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign launched by the government to eradicate drugs and remove illegal possessions by drug peddlers, the Nawanshahr police, in coordination with the local administration, demolished an unauthorised construction at Aur today.

This illegal construction was built by a person, Dev Raj Debi, which was demolished on the orders of the civil administration. A total of 18 cases have been registered against Debi of which 13 cases are registered under the NDPS Act.

The police said the civil administration had asked for police assistance to demolish this illegal construction on which a heavy police force was deployed and it was demolished.

The police claimed that under the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign, 253 cases have been registered since last month and 284 people have been caught and sent to jail. The police made an appeal to the people to provide information about such illegal activities.

“We assure that immediate and strict action will be taken against the culprits,” they said. The police also warned the drug smugglers to either give up drug smuggling and do some other work, or be ready for the strictest action.
