As many as 22,133 students of Class VIII appeared in examination for English at 178 centres set up across the district on Wednesday.

The students said the paper was easy and they were able to attempt it well in time. “There was nothing which was out of syllabus. The paper came as per the pattern we were given by our teachers”, said Tanu, a student of Government Senior Secondary School, Nehru Garden.

The examination for Class XII also started today. Nearly 19,178 students appeared for the paper in Home Science which was conducted at 160 centres set up in the city.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
