Even as the Aam Aadmi Party continues to troll Jalandhar Lok Sabha MP and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit S Channi over his flip-flop in statements with regards to the arrest of ex-Akali minister Bikram Majithia, he has issued another statement today. Channi said that if he was called by the Vigilance Bureau in the case as a witness, he was ready to offer full support.

Channi said the fresh FIR lodged by the Vigilance Bureau contains the same facts as the earlier case filed against him during his tenure as Chief Minister. "The VB has simply added two more lines in the same case and presented it as a fresh FIR. Still, if I am called in for any assistance in the case against Majithia or any other drug accused, I shall offer the required cooperation," he told the media.

Ex-DGP Siddharth Chatopadhya and ex-deputy director of Enforcement Directorate Niranjan Singh have also appeared before the VB to record their statements and available information in the case.

Channi, however, stressed that the VB had only made a case of alleged corruption by Majithia as the drug cases do not fall under its ambit. "Still I have been trolled on social media for trying to hamper the ongoing campaign against drug abuse," he stated.

He reiterated, "I have not supported Majithia in any way. My support to him is limited only to the manner in which the house of MLA Ganieve Majithia was raided and the motive behind his arrest is an attempt of the government to muzzle his voice. The only person in whose support I have given the statement is Congress MLA Pargat Singh, for he too has been under the radar of the VB. If VB acts against him, it shall be purely a vindictive and false case."
