Robbers shoot at petrol station manager, take away cash
A brazen bike gang struck again in broad daylight, marking their second robbery in just three days and raising serious questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement in the region. The robbers today targeted Sagar Ohri, manager of the Kathpal Petrol Pump, who was ambushed while carrying nearly Rs 4 lakh just 200 metres away from the petrol pump in a busy area.
The gang, consisting of three armed men on a motorcycle, had been tracking Ohri as he left his residence. They confronted him with guns drawn, seizing the bag of cash and fleeing the scene. However, Ohri, showing courage, chased the robbers on his scooter till the petrol pump. The situation escalated when the victim collided with the robbers' bike near the petrol pump, leading to a violent confrontation.
In response, one of the robbers fired three shots — one into the ground and two at Ohri, hitting him in the thigh and waist. The robbers then fled the scene, leaving the victim in a pool of blood.
Ohri was rushed to the hospital and remains in a critical condition. Empty bullet cartridges were found at the scene. Police officials claimed that they had collected the CCTV footage from the petrol pump and an FIR is expected to be lodged by tonight based on the victim's statement and witness accounts.
The gang, which the police believe is responsible for the recent robbery at an Adampur petrol pump, has left residents and business owners rattled. This second robbery in such a short time span is fuelling growing concerns about lawlessness in the region. The fact that the gang carried out this bold crime in the middle of a busy street in broad daylight only deepens the resident's fears.
CP Swapan Sharma has confirmed that this the same gang behind Adampur petrol pump robbery. "We are already following the case and the robbers will not escape for long," he said.
Meanwhile, the Rural Police have also issued wanted posters featuring CCTV footage of the gang, offering a reward of Rs 25,000 for any information leading to their capture.
However, witnesses like Rajiv Ahuja, who was present near Workshop Chowk, have expressed outrage over the rising boldness of these criminals. "The way these robberies are taking place in broad daylight, it shows that these criminals have no fear of the law," Ahuja said. "It’s clear that the police are unable to stop them, and we are left at their mercy."
