Chabbewal MLA and Aam Aadmi Party leader Dr Ishank Kumar today congratulated the area residents, especially the district’s lawyer community, over the organisation of the special Assembly session, held in Anandpur Sahib yesterday, that put an end to rumours of a new district being carved out of Hoshiarpur.

He said that when the Hoshiarpur lawyer community contacted him at his residence recently and requested that he and Hoshiarpur MP Dr Raj Kumar Chhabewal speak to the government about this matter and prevent the proposal from passing, he assured them of his full support and conveyed their concerns to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

He said that even at that time, he had stated that he knew of no such proposal. The unfounded rumors and confusion being spread on this issue had created unnecessary anxiety among the populace, while the reality is that no such move was under consideration by the government, he said.

Dr Ishank said that he, along with the MP, also made it clear to the government that Hoshiarpur district was historically and emotionally integral to the region’s identity, and that the locals felt a strong connection to the district.

The MLA added that making baseless statements on this and other sensitive topics was tantamount to spreading confusion among the public.

He appealed to the people of the area not to believe any incomplete or misleading information circulating on social media or other platforms, and to rely only on authentic, official sources for accurate information.
