Around 50 to 60 members and leaders of the Guru Ravidas Tiger Force Punjab, Ambedkar Sena Moolniwasi, Bhagwan Valmiki Action Committee and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) gathered at Ambedkar Park in Hargobind Nagar between 11.30 am and 12.00 noon.
Balwinder Bodh, president of Ambedkar Sena Moolniwasi (Phagwara), addressed the gathering, strongly condemning the act as a "disrespectful and condemnable attempt" to insult the CJI.
In a separate protest Aam Aadmi Party's Scheduled Caste wing also gathered in Phagwara to express outrage over the incident. Led by Jarnail Nangal, in-charge of the AAP SC wing (Doaba) demonstrators assembled at the rest-house and later marched to Hargobind Nagar Chowk.
