Olympian Rajinder Singh Senior, Technical Lead at RoundGlass, shared that the league is designed to provide grassroots-level players with meaningful match exposure, supporting both their athletic and personal development. The tournament will feature eight academy teams from across the country, competing over two phases.
Last year’s inaugural edition saw six teams from Punjab play in a home-and-away format.
The first phase of the 2025 edition will be held at the Mohali International Hockey Stadium from August 31 to September 9. The second phase, including the finals, will take place at the Surjit Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar, from September 15 to 27, with the final match scheduled for September 27.
Each team can register up to 20 players, including three Under-21 players (born after January 1, 2005) and 17 Under-19 players (born after January 1, 2007). The prize money will be distributed among all eight teams based on their final rankings.
The initiative reflects a strong commitment from both RoundGlass and Hockey Punjab to elevate the standard of hockey at the grassroots level in India and nurture emerging talent.
Gurpreet Singh Sunny, Founder, Roundglass, said, “Roundglass Hockey is on a mission to rebuild India’s passion for field hockey and organising the Punjab Hockey League for juniors on such a big scale will take us closer to our goal. It marks an important milestone in promoting hockey at the grassroots level in the country and uplifting the level of young hockey players by exposing them to more competitive games.”
Sharing his thoughts on the Punjab Hockey League, Nitin Kohli, president of Hockey Punjab, said, “The Punjab Hockey League marks a significant step forward in nurturing young hockey talent across the state. By offering regular, structured competition, it not only provides essential match exposure for developing players but also encourages tactical innovation among coaches.
Amrik Singh Powar, general secretary of Hockey Punjab, said, “The Punjab Hockey League was started last year with only six teams from Punjab, but this time its scope has been expanded along with the cash prize money. With this league, the budding players of Punjab will get a full opportunity to showcase their sporting prowess.”
