In wake of the Republic Day celebrations, the police have beefed up security in the city and district for the smooth conduct of the functions to be held on the occasion. The police conducted flag marches, checked bus stands, railways stations and places witnessing heavy footfall. The police are also keeping a watch on the activities of accused out on bail.

While addressing mediapersons, Dr Akhil Chaudhary, SSP, Nawanshahr, said, “The police have tightened security in view of the Republic Day celebrations. Thorough checking of suspected persons and vehicles is being conducted across the district. A special drive has been launched to check current whereabouts of accused previously involved in unlawful activities and heinous crimes. Flag marches have been held across the district to boost confidence of people.”

The SSP said, “Special checking of hotels, restaurants and sarais is also being done. The public should not believe in rumours and fake news. They should call the police helpline numbers 112 and 01823-226524 for any clarification and in case of an emergency.”
