Rajya Sabha member and renowned environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal on Tuesday flagged off an ambulance to provide healthcare services in Sultanpur Lodhi and its adjoining areas.

He got the ambulance readied at a cost of Rs 25 lakh provided from his discretionary funds. Seechewal dedicated the ambulance to the public at a function held here in local Civil Hospital.

Seechewal said that Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was also making all out efforts to ensure best healthcare services across the state. He said the medical facilities and infrastructure in government hospitals were being strengthened in Punjab so as to make all treatments available in these institutions.

Seechewal added that a grant of Rs 9 lakh had also been given to purchase two freezers for the mortuary in Sultanpur Lodhi while Rs 7.50 lakh was given for ayurvedic dispensary at Sultanpur Lodhi. He said that a grant to the tune of Rs 41.50 lakh had been given to further improve the healthcare services in the region. He said another grant of Rs 16.40 lakh was provided for digital X-Ray facility at the Civil Hospital, Kapurthala. Similarly, a grant of Rs 9.90 lakh has also been provided to government dispensary located in Balerkhanpur village.

Seechewal said he had assured to give grant of Rs 50 lakh for sewerage project in Dalla village. He also planted saplings in the hospital premises. Prominent among those present on the occasion included SDM Jaspreet Singh, SMO Dr Ravinder Pal Singh Shubh, Market Committee Chairman Mohammad Rafi and others.
