Phagwara: Kamla Nehru Primary School, Guru Hargobind Nagar, organised the ‘8th Inter-School Shabad Gayan Competition’ on the school premises. Nine teams from different schools participated in the event. Parminder Singh Sekhon and Kishore Kumar were the two judges. All teams presented various ‘Shabads’ from Guru Granth Sahib. The winner’s trophy was bagged by Sahibzada Ajit Singh School. The first runner-up trophy was won by Swami Sant Dass School. The second runner-up trophy went to Shri Mahavir Jain Model School. All the winning and participating teams were honoured by PK Dhillon, principal, Kamla Nehru Public School. The school headmistress Harpreet Kaur encouraged the students to participate in such a devotional and musical event.

Jalandhar: Satnam Singh, a student of Cambridge International School (Co-Ed) has won bronze medal in 100m event at CBSE National Athletics Championship that was held at Allons Public School, Chhattisgarh, under the guidance of his coach Sarabjit Singh Happy, he reached the Nationals after performing well at CBSE Cluster XVIII , bagging the first position and qualifying for the Nationals in 100m sprint. Following the footsteps of Gurindervir Singh (also a student of the same school), became the first Indian athlete to clinch the gold in 100m sprint in the international arena. On this occasion, chairman Nitin Kohli, vice-chairman Deepak Bhatia, president Pooja Bhatia, vice-president, Paarth Bhatia, director administration Rohit Khosla and director and principal Dr RavinderMahal appreciated the efforts of the sports department, Satnam and his parents.

Poem recitation competition

Phagwara: An event ‘Sahodaya Inter-School Poem Recitation’ competition was held at Woodland Overseas School, Hoshiarpur, in which 18 schools participated and every student did extremely well. Navya Setia of Class VIII from Saffron Public School, Phagwara, won the third prize. Principal Dr Sandeepa Sood was elated with her victory and shared her views on the importance of oratory skills and all-round growth and development.

Disneyland party organised

Jalandhar: Darshan Academy organised Disneyland party in the kindergarten section. Head bands of Disney characters were given to the tiny tots. Teachers recited the rhymes while wearing the face masks of Disney mouse. Tiny tots wore Disney character dresses and brought their favourite food from home. They looked gorgeous in their colorful and sparkling dresses.

Science Camp from Dec 16-20

Jalandhar: Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, has been organising its 6th INSPIRE Internship Science Camp from December 16 to 20. More than 200 students from about 15 schools from various districts of the state, including Jalandhar, Amritsar, Batala and Patiala will attend the camp. The five-day schedule of the camp comprises lectures, interactive sessions, video lectures, hands-on practical sessions and workshops by the experts from various disciplines including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. A science quiz competition and an innovative idea-writing competition will be also conducted and the winners will be awarded. Scientists from various academic institutes from the country, including Dr IS Dua, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Prof Arvind IISER, Mohali, Dr Umesh Kumar Sharma, DST, New Delhi, Dr Yashveer Singh IIT Ropar, Dr Rita Sharma JNU, New Delhi, Dr Pulak Sen Gupta, Jadavpur University, Dr Sanjay Puri, JNU, New Delhi, Dr Arun Pal Singh, Delhi University, Dr D. Sunder, IIT Delhi, Dr Atul Khanna, GNDU Amritsar, and Jaswinder Singh (National Awardee) Patiala, will be the resource persons and Dr PK Pati, Head, Biotech Deptt, GNDU, Amritsar, will be the keynote speaker. The main attractions of this camp will be playing with protein structures using computers, night sky watch, journey through the human genome and workshop on experimental physics.

National Energy Conservation Day

Jalandhar: Eklavya School, Jalandhar, observed ‘National Energy Conservation Day’. Ruhani of Class VII delivered a speech on Energy Conservation. Many students made projects based on the theme ‘Energy Conservation’. Akashdeep Singh, Rajwinder Singh and Sahib Singh of Class IX made grass-cutting cycle. Namrata, Sanchit and Kritish of Class IX made a project named ‘Sewage Treatment Plant and Replantation Machine’. Simran Kaur and Gurneet Kaur of Class X made Sewage Treatment Plant, Aryan Sharma and Arpita of Class X made solar cycle, Himanshu and Dilraj of Class VI made ‘Enhancing solar energy by the use of solar panel’, Akansha, Baldeep and Sanjana of Class VIII prepared ‘Drip Irrigation’ and ‘Sprinkler System’. Chairman of the school JK Gupta, director Seema Handa, principal Arvinder Kaur and Administrator Dimple Malhotra appreciated the ideas of the children.

Nukkad Natak for rape victim

Jalandhar: CT Group students scripted and presented a ‘Nukkad Natak’ based on crime against women. The play highlighted the issues of female foeticide, acid attack, domestic violence, rape, molestation and harassment. Giving a tribute to a young veterinarian doctor of Hyderabad, who was raped and then burnt alive, students and faculty also gathered for a candlelight march and presented posters displaying quotes painted by students. Manbir Singh, managing director, CT Group said: “A change is required. Change, that effects the human’s logical thinking has to be flipped to a positive side. Here, only education won’t help; a person’s own self being has to be humane. Safeguarding women is important, but first comes is the respect that we ought to give to the female section of society.”

College opens beauty studio

Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya inaugurated its first beauty studio with the name ”Sublime Art-The Studio”. The newly established studio has allowed the students to access multiple technology and product knowledge to make them industry ready. The studio is offering beauty combo offers at a low price on the occasion of Christmas and New Year. The combo offers are providing various beauty, hair and skincare related services to the customers. These combo offers are valid for the outsiders also. It is important to mention that the department of cosmetology is build-up with fully specialised infrastructure related to skin, hair and body care. Currently, the department is running various courses such as MA Cosmetology, BVoc (Beauty & Wellness), PG Diploma in Cosmetology, Diploma in Cosmetology (after 10 2) and Cosmetology as a subject in BA course.
