Speaking to media persons, Saroj raised concern over the recovery of large quantities of beef in cities with religious significance like Amritsar, following recent seizures in Phagwara.
He alleged that individuals from outside Punjab, particularly from certain communities, were often found to be involved in these illegal activities, highlighting lapses in the state’s law and order machinery. “There is an evident lack of in-depth investigation into what kind of activities outsiders are engaging in after arriving in Punjab,” Saroj said.
He urged district police officers from across Punjab, including the Senior Superintendent of Police of Kapurthala, to conduct detailed inspections of all non-vegetarian eateries, including roadside dhabas and hotels, to ensure that beef was not being illegally sold under any circumstances.
“Punjab is the sacred land of saints, sages and spiritual leaders. The sale or slaughter of cows is not only illegal, but deeply offensive to the religious sentiments of Hindus,” Saroj said.
Taking aim at biryani shops allegedly being opened by individuals from states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the Shiv Sena leader insisted that such outlets must be closely monitored. “Strict legal action should be taken if any such establishment is found involved in the sale of beef,” he asserted.
Saroj also demanded that all beef-related criminal cases be tried in fast-track courts to ensure swift justice. “This is not merely a law and order issue, but one that strikes at the core of Hindu religious sentiments. Delay in justice only emboldens offenders,” he said.
The Shiv Sena’s strong stance comes amid heightened tensions and increasing scrutiny over illegal meat trade operations in the region.
