The death toll in the Audi car mishap increased to four on Wednesday after one more person succumbed to his injuries.

Three people were killed and two injured when an Audi car crashed into an e-rickshaw on the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway on Tuesday night.

Later, one of the injured persons, identified as Harpreet Happy, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, taking the toll to four.

The impact of the accident left the e-rickshaw crushed.

The Audi driver fled the spot. Police said the driver of the car is yet to be identified.

An FIR has been registered at Maqsudan police station against an unidentified person under Sections 304 and 279 of the IPC.

The four people killed have been identified as Paramjit Singh Pamma; Jagdish Chander, a resident of Shri Guru Ravidass Nagar; Pankaj, resident of Kishanpura; and Harpreet Happy.

The two injured were rushed to hospital where Harpreet Happy succumbed.

The accident took place when the speeding Audi car hit the e-rickshaw plying on the highway and then rammed into a divider near Vidhipur railway crossing on the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway.

The e-rickshaw was badly crushed, leading to the death of three people, grievously injuring two others.

SHO Jatinder Singh said, “The Audi driver hit the e-rickshaw as he was driving at a high speed. The identity of the Audi driver is being ascertained and the families of the deceased and the injured are being traced.”

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased held dharna at the Maqsudan police station demanding arrest of the unidentified accused in the case.
