According to PCR staff member ASI Karamjit Singh, the incident occurred around 10 pm. Amritpal Singh, a resident of Urban Estate, was returning from Jalandhar with his family in their car. The speeding Innova was following them.

As Amritpal turned at the Karol Bagh cut, the Innova driver rammed his car into his from behind, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. The driver was later identified as Gurjit Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, Kapurthala.

ASI Karamjit Singh said Amritpal alleged that the Innova driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. After the collision, he sped away towards the city. While fleeing, he drove straight into the DC residence gate at the DC Chowk, resulting in severe damage to the Innova as well.
