Patriotic fervour gripped educational institutes of the city a day ahead of the Independence Day. The campuses were decked up with Tricolour and contests on poster-making, declamation and singing patriotic songs were held to instill feelings of unity and nationalism in students.

CT Group of Institutes

On the eve of India’s 78th Independence Day, CT Group celebrated the nation’s spirit through a series of vibrant events, part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. The campus hosted a range of activities, including a grand 30-feet wall design adorned with the National Flag, a flag hoisting ceremony, a disciplined NCC cadet march, an energetic student flash mob, and captivating dance performances. To commemorate the theme of ‘Viksit Bharat’, events such as ‘Artistic Bharat: A glimpse of Azad Bharat’ and ‘Jashan-e-Azadi’ were organised to engage students and faculty. Creative competitions, including caption writing, poster-making and collage-making encouraged the participants to express their patriotic sentiments artistically.

Apeejay School

Independence Day celebrations were held at Apeejay School, Model Town. Officiating Principal Priyanka Grover kicked off the celebrations by hoisting the Tricolour. The pre-primary wing Rhythms Kinderworld came clad in a tri-colour attire. Beautiful handmade rakhis were sent to BSF jawans. The students presented a group song transmitting the wave of patriotic fervour. They recited poems on national heroes and paid tribute to the freedom fighters. The thematic morning assembly reminded all of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters for the attainment of India’s independence. Speeches on Independence Day awakened the students about the achievements of a new stronger India.

Sanskriti KMV School

Sanskriti KMV School celebrated the 78th Independence Day with enthusiasm and fervour. The school organised a variety of activities involving diverse talents, including performances, literary programmes and other events. A special prayer assembly was held, featuring patriotic songs and poetry recitations. The week-long celebrations included music, dance, poetry competitions, collages, digital posters, bench competitions, picture colouring, painting, Tricolour flags, eye-masks, pencil sketches of great freedom fighters and other artistic activities. Students presented the history pre- and post-Independence with emotional creativity. They prepared boards with magazines, pictures and collages related to freedom fighters. The students presented book marks and Independence Day greeting cards to Principal Rachna Monga.

GNDU Regional Campus

The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with fervour and patriotic feelings in the Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus, Ladhewali here on Wednesday. The function was organised under the aegis of NSS unit of the campus. Declamation, rangoli and poster-making competitions were held in the campus on the occasion. The students of various departments participated in the events with interest and zeal. The topics for the competitions were freedom struggle, unity in diversity, New India, women empowerment and environmental awareness. The winners of the declamation competitions were: Bandanapreet (first prize), Stuti Sharma and Tiksha, both declared second winners by the judges. In rangoli-making, Sunidhi and Bhawna bagged the first and Harpreet, Sonam and Kareena bagged the second prize, respectively. In poster-making, Harneet was given the first and Namandeep Kaur got the second prize. Prof Rupum Jagota, associate dean of the campus, talked about the meaning of freedom and its use in a wise manner.

Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya

The Student Council of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya in collaboration with Fashion Designing and Political Science Departments celebrated Independence Day. The Student Council members prepared handmade Tricolour badges and distributed Tricolour sweets to the HMV family. Kris Sondhi recited a poem on Independence Day. The students of Fashion Designing Department under the guidance of Navneeta prepared hand-made painted flags. The Political Science Department organised a declamation contest on the topic ‘India towards 100 years of Independence’. Jhanvi of BA won the contest. Department of History and Post-Graduate Department of Hindi organised poetry recitation competitions. Faces and hands were painted in tri-colour by members of the Student Council. NCC cadets and NSS volunteers rent the air with slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.

Innocent Hearts Schools

Students from all five schools of the Innocent Hearts (Green Model Town, Loharan, Noorpur Road, Cantt, Jandiala Road and Kapurthala Road) along with the B.Ed College and Management College, participated in the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to express their respect for the Tricolour and the nation. Numerous activities were organised for the students on the occasion. Children evoked patriotic spirit by reciting wonderful poems about the motherland, filling the school with the essence of love for the country. Activities under the theme ‘Viksit Bharat’ included dance, music, role play, speech competitions and poster-making in which students showed great enthusiasm.

St Soldier Group of Institutions

Various school branches of St. Soldier Group of Institutions celebrated 78th Independence Day where students, faculty and staff members paid tribute to the nation and freedom fighters of India. The school was decorated with tricolour dupattas and flags. The school choir did a phenomenal job by singing the famous songs and dancing on the auspicious day. Students gave speeches and performed plays and choreography on our freedom fighters. Children wore tricolour clothes and soldiers’ uniforms. The ceremony ended with the National Anthem. Group Chairman Anil Chopra and vice-chairperson Sangeeta Chopra informed the students about India’s freedom struggle.

Police DAV Public School

I-Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at Police DAV Public School. Students of NCC Army wing, Navy wing, Air wing, NSS, Scouts and Guides units of the school paraded to the tune of the song, ‘Sare Jahan Se Achcha’. Principal Dr Rashmi Vij inspected the parade in a jeep decorated with the colours of the National Flag. A song presented by the school team filled the audience with patriotic fervour. Through a short play, tribute was paid to the soldiers who sacrifice their lives to protect the country.

Sant Baba Bhag Singh International School

Sant Baba Bhag Singh International School (SBBSIS) celebrated 78th Independence Day under the guidance of Principal Ranjeet Singh. The ceremony started with flag hoisting by Baba Manmohan Singh (Chairman of SBBSIS) and was followed by the National Anthem. Students performed giddha and bhangra with zest and zeal. Principal Ranjeet Singh addressed the audience and shared his valuable insight. He threw light on the struggle of freedom fighters and motivated the students. The function concluded with a vote of thanks by the Principal. Vice-principal Baljit Singh and the faculty members were present on the occasion.
