Jalandhar, July 30
The city police have solved a murder case of a local woman by arresting her stepbrother.
According to the police, Sonu, alias Reena, of Abadpura, filed a complaint of her sister Neetu’s death. Neetu was married to Gurcharan Singh Khaira, alias Minta, of Bhawanipur, Kapurthala district, but had been living in a rented house owned by Gurdeep Singh at FCI Colony, Jalandhar, for the past 12-13 years.
While Gurcharan Singh had returned to his village Bhawanipur about three years ago, Neetu was living alone in Jalandhar.
“Neetu’s stepbrother Vinay, alias Gaggi, who resides in Basti Gujan, Jalandhar, would occasionally visit her. On the morning of July 23 around 10 am, Gurdeep Singh called Sonu informing her that his sister Neetu had been assaulted by Vinay and had succumbed to her injuries in a hospital”, police officials said.
They said Gurdeep had rushed Neetu to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, where she had told him that Vinay had hit a wooden stick on her head. Neetu was then stabbed in the back by Vinay, the police said.
Neetu succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. The police had registered a case. On Monday, the police apprehended Vinay from near the bus stand in Jalandhar. The wooden stick used in the assault had also been recovered.
Police officials say an argument between Neetu and Vinay resulted in this fatal incident. Further investigation is underway.
