Jalandhar, November 27

Member of Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary today met Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar in connection with the death of Prabhleen Kaur, who was murdered in Surrey in Canada.

Chaudhary informed the minister that Prabhleen had gone to Canada to pursue higher education and after completion of her studies, she was working there. Daughter of a photojournalist, Gurdial Singh, she belonged to Chitti village of Jalandhar.

Apprising the minister of the tragic death, he said the news had shocked and saddened residents and diaspora belonging to the state. Since lakhs of students have gone abroad for higher education and work, the news of her murder has sent panic waves among their parents and others in India.

The MP requested the minister to take up the matter with the Government of Canada and ask them to bring the guilty to book at the earliest. He also sought assistance for the visit of aggrieved parents to Canada and bring back the body of the victim on government’s expenses.

The Minister of External Affairs assured Chaudhary that the issue would be taken up with the higher authorities of the Canadian Government and exemplary punishment would be sought for the culprits.
