Cabinet Minister (Punjab) Brahm Shankar Jimpa, while planting saplings during a Van Mahotsav programme organised at Van Chetna Park, Bassi Purani, appealed to the people to plant as many saplings as possible during the monsoon season. He said a target of planting 38 lakh saplings has been set in the district, which can be achieved only with public cooperation.
The Cabinet Minister expressed his gratitude to the Basi Purani gram panchayat, who gave their full cooperation in the construction of Van Chetna Park. He said the village panchayat always contributes maximum in implementing the government schemes. While getting the school children to plant saplings, he said maximum saplings should be planted to save the environment.
Jimpa also took the students on a tour of the Nature Interpretation Center built in Van Chetna Park. He said besides planting trees, it is important to take care of them and keep them alive. After planting saplings, take care of them for at least three to four years.
He said environmental balance is deteriorating day by day and the main reason behind it is the shrinking forest area. There is a need to plant maximum trees because these help maintain environmental balance. The Cabinet Minister also visited the stalls set up by the Forest Department. Mayor Surinder Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, CF North Dr Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari, Senior Deputy Mayor Praveen Saini and DFO Nalin Yadav accompanied him.
