The police claims to have solved a murder case at Khairar Rawal village with the arrest of three youths of the same village. One person was murdered with an intention of committing theft at his house in the village. The police recovered Rs 2,500 from the suspects which they stole from the victim’s house.
During a press conference at the Police Lines here today, SSP Surendra Lamba said on August 2, the body of Harmesh Lal, a resident of Khairar Rawal village, was found in his house. On the complaint of Jaswinder Kaur, the wife of the deceased, the Mahilpur police registered a case in this connection.
A team headed by SP (D) Sarbjit Singh Bahia was formed to investigate the case. Officials of the CIA were also included in the team.
The SSP said during primary investigation, the team found that Harmesh Lal lived alone in the house while his wife lived with their four children at her maternal village. The team came to know that Harmesh Lal was an alcoholic. The team also discovered that the three suspects entered the victim’s house by breaking a window. When Harmesh Lal identified the suspects they killed him, the SSP said. After scrutinising the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the area and going by the intelligence reports, the police team arrested three suspects from the village. They were identified as Amarjit Singh, Sunil Kumar and Sandeep Singh, the SSP added.
The SSP claimed that during interrogation, the suspects confessed that they entered the victim’s house with an intention of committing theft. The suspects also confessed that they strangulated Harmesh Lal with a piece of cloth, the SSP added.
The SSP said on the night of the incident, there was a Jagran in the village. The suspects went to the victim’s house for stealing valuables as they thought villagers would be busy in the Jagran and no one would get any clue of the crime they committed.
The SSP said Rs 2,500 stolen from the victim’s house were recovered from the suspects. He said the suspects would be presented in a court and brought on police remand for further probe. — OC
