Three persons were arrested after recovering 850 grams of opium from them at a naka near Dhilwan, the police said today. The naka was manned by ASI Deepak Kumar. A white Toyota Etios car bearing registration number Punjab-10-DG-3434 was intercepted at the naka by the police.

After stopping the vehicle, one of the occupants attempted to get rid of a black polythene packet by throwing it under a tree. The packet was recovered by the police. On opening the packet, the police found opium in it.

The arrested accused were identified as Jaswant Rai, a resident of Kandola Khurd; Paraminder Singh, a resident of Sunarh Khurd; and Hardev Singh, a resident of Kotranai, Phagwara. Their vehicle was also seized by the police.

SHO Dalwinderbir Singh said a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered against the accused and further investigation initiated in this connection.
