His father Madan Lal, in his complaint to the police, said his son who was married to a woman of Phagwara six years ago was not happy. The deceased had a five-year-old son. After marriage, Singh was living away from his parents.

“His in-laws used to beat him up. My daughter-in-law was not living with my son for the last two months. On October 11, when my son went to her home to take her, his in-laws thrashed him. This left my son heartbroken. We never expected he would take this extreme step,” his father further alleged in his complaint.

It was only after watching his status that the family got to know that their son had consumed poisonous substance. “When we reached his house, he was struggling for his life and died on the way to the hospital,” the father further stated.
