The Shiv Sena, Punjab unit, organised a tribute-paying ceremony here today on the death anniversary of General AS Vaidya, during whose tenure Operation Blue Star took place.

Senior state vice-president of Shiv Sena Punjab, Inderjit Karwal, along with Rajesh Palta, Vipin Sharma, Ravi Dutt, city president Ankur Bedi and trade cell president Ashok Ahuja, paid floral tributes to General Vaidya.

Inderjit Karwal shed light on General Vaidya’s life, recalling the dark days of 1984 when Punjab was engulfed in the flames of terrorism.

Karwal stressed on the fact that the hard-earned peace in Punjab, achieved after countless sacrifices, must be preserved by thwarting anti-national activities.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
