Two arrested after encounter near Garhshankar

In retaliatory fire, one of them was injured. The police arrested both suspects. The injured has been admitted to the hospital.
DSP Daljit Singh Khakh told reporters that the Garhshankar police, led by SHO Gagandeep Singh, had set up a check-point in the forest on the Barapur Kunail Road. Ttwo motorcyclists approached from Barapur. When police signalled them to stop, they opened fire. Following this, one person was injured in police retaliation. The police arrested both on the spot and admitted the injured to the hospirtal.
The two men have been identified as Karan Gajpal, alias Kannu, a resident of Bassi Wazidpur, Hariana, and Simranpreet Singh, alias Simmu, a resident of Ibrahimpur, Garhshankar.
One of the bullets fired by the criminals hit the bulletproof jacket worn by police outpost in-charge Satnam Singh, while another hit a police vehicle. The police also fired five or six rounds in retaliation. Karan was shot in the leg during the encounter. Karan Gajpal already has a case registered against him under the Arms Act at Sadar police station, Hoshiarpur, and Simranpreet Singh has a case of murder registered against him at Banga City police station, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district. An investigation will be conducted.
SHO Gagandeep Singh Sekhon said both will be questioned to find out in which crimes they were involved and where they got the pistol used to fire at the police.
