The police have arrested two men under the Arms Act after they were allegedly found carrying an illegal weapon. Phagwara SP Gurmit Kaur Chahal said here today that the arrests were made near the Panchhat area under the Rawalpindi police station.

A local social worker alerted the police about the movement of two suspects carrying weapon approaching the village on foot. The accused were identified as Prinjanj Kumar, a resident of Valmiki Mohalla, Panchhat village, and Baljit Singh, a resident of Dhiana village, under the Mehtiana police station, Hoshiarpur district.

Acting on the tip-off, the police detained both men and, upon search, recovered a .32 bore pistol from their possession. Officials said the two accused were allegedly planning to execute a crime.

Chahal said Prinjanj Kumar was already facing cases related to fights and weapon offences.
