Two brothers from Nawanshahr were killed after the bike they were riding was hit by a Fortuner SUV from behind.

In his statement to the police, Jagdish Ram said the mishap took place when his father Paramjeet and uncle Dharampal were going to their relative’s place.

“I was following them on my bike. I saw a rashly driven SUV hitting their bike from behind. As a result, they fell on the road and suffered serious injuries. I took them to the hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival,” he said.

The police have registered a case of rash driving against the SUV driver.

Notably, accidents due to rash driving are on the rise in Nawanshahr. This is the fourth such case in the past 20 days here.

On January 3, a woman, Kamaljit Kaur (40), died while her daughter Jasmeet Kaur from Balachaur suffered serious injuries after the two-wheeler they were riding was hit by a car. As per information, the car driver, who belonged to Gurdaspur, fled the spot after the mishap. The police later arrested the car driver.

Jasmeet is fighting for her life at a hospital in Chandigarh. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (whoever causes hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life), 338 and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC was registered.

On January 2, two migrant workers lost their lives after the bike they were riding was hit by a car in Nawanshahr. The deceased were identified as Saroj Kumar and Manish Kumar.

On January 16, Lakhwinder Singh (40), a resident of Sadar Banga, succumbed to his injuries after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a tractor trailer.
