Two lose Rs 3 lakh in UK visa fraud

The police have registered two separate cases of immigration fraud in which residents were allegedly cheated of a combined amount of Rs 3 lakh by travel agents on the pretext of sending them to England. Both cases have been registered under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC, along with Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professionals Act, 2014.

According to complainant Rajesh, a resident of Thenam village, alleged Davinder Singh, alias Dev Sidhu, a resident of Wadala Colony, Kapurthala, took ₹1,75,000 from him with the promise of arranging a visa to the United Kingdom. When the accused failed to fulfil the promise, Rajesh approached the police. Following an inquiry by the police and the Bureau of Immigration (PBI Home Staff), a case was registered against the accused.

In the second incident, Rajjeet Kaur, resident of Khera Colony, Phagwara, has filed a complaint against Balbir Ram, from Thala village, Phillaur in Jalandhar district. The accused is residing at Regency Town, Phagwara. The accused took ₹1,25,000 to send her son Kamaljeet to England on a five-year work permit. However, after receiving the money, he allegedly failed to provide any visa or travel documents and stopped responding to the family.

Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma confirmed that investigations in both cases are underway.
