While Amrik Singh was called to Lohian police station at 5:30 pm yesterday, he returned home late this evening. He and his wife Manpreet Kaur are engaged in making videos of various places that they had toured since 2022. Both are passouts of journalism from Doaba College here.
Manpreet, who has faced tense moments while taking care of her three-month-old daughter Anhad, said, "My husband was asked to appear in Lohian police station. He left home and confirmed to me that he had reached there. After this, his phone went off. Late in the night, the Lohian police came to our place and asked for our laptop. We told them that we do not operate from system and instead use our phones. So, they took away our phones which we use for official purpose".
This morning as the family approached the Lohian police, they were told that Amrik had been taken away to some undisclosed location. This added to the worries of the family. Congress Shahkot MLA Hardev S Laddi Sherowalia too approached the authorities seeking whereabouts of the vlogger. However, later in the evening, Manpreet said, "I got a call from village sarpanch that Amrik was being set free and that we need to bring him back. So my elders went with the sarpanch and we are told that he is being brought back from Jalandhar city."
Post Operation Sindoor, several vloggers, who had toured to Pakistan, have been on the radar of the agencies. Even now as the Punjab Police and intelligence agencies are on tenterhooks to ensure that the Independence Day passes peacefully, they are learnt to be keeping an eye on everyone who has had some Pakistan link in the past.
