A team of the Kapurthala district administration inspected the affected villages to assess the extent of the damage and provided fodder and sand bags at vulnerable places.
The administration also set up helpline 01822-231990.
“The water has receded slightly. Some people came to help us but our primary concern remains our crops. The extent of damage can only be clear after the water recedes,” said Nishan Singh, a farmer at Passan Kadim village.
Meanwhile, following directions from Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, Sultanpur Lodhi SDM Alka Kalia took stock of the situation.
Panchal said area SDMs had been ordered to visit flood-hit areas and remain in touch with people for continuous monitoring of the situation. Officials from the Drainage Department are continuously patrolling the Dhussi dam.
Sand bags have been kept at sensitive places for use in case of a emergency.
The DC said the district administration was prepared to deal with any eventuality. He also appealed to people to avoid rumours.
He said the situation was under control and there was no need to panic.
