Phagwara Municipal Corporation elections.
The announcement was made by former minister Aruna Chaudhary during a screening committee meeting of Congress workers held here today. She emphasized that this strategy was crucial to securing Congress’ control over the Municipal Corporation in Phagwara.
The screening committee meeting was attended by key Congress leaders, including AICC-appointed coordinators Alok Sharma and Ravindra Umrao, committee chairman Aruna Chaudhary and former MLAs Navtej Singh Cheema, Sukhpal Bhullar, and Harinderpal Singh Harry, along with MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal.
The committee held discussions with aspiring candidates to hear their views and aspirations. Addressing a gathering, committee members stressed the importance of unity among Congress workers, stating that collective efforts were essential to win the elections.
During the meeting, MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal highlighted the lack of development in Phagwara, criticising the current administration for neglecting basic infrastructure.
Chaudhary revealed that the screening process for potential candidates was already underway. “Shortlisted candidates will be announced soon, and only those with strong prospects of victory will be fielded,” she said.
