A woman died while her husband suffered injuries after the bike they were riding was allegedly hit by a truck here.

According to information, Sunny Kumar, a resident of Akki Tunda village, told the police that he, along with his wife Meena Devi, was coming to the village on a bike. When they reached near the rest house, a truck hit their two-wheeler. His wife lost her life, while he suffered injuries in the mishap.

The Mukerian police have registered a case against the truck driver, Varinder Sharma, a resident of Nandgarh district, Sangrur.

Meanwhile, an elderly man died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in Talwara.

SHO Hargurudev Singh and ASI Rakesh Kumar said Manoj Kumar (38), alias Rami, a resident of Beh Fatto village, told the police that his father, Malkit Singh (83), used to do petty work at his and nearby villages. While he was returning home around 6:30 pm, an unidentified vehicle hit him. As a result, he fell into a ditch on the roadside and suffered serious injuries.

He was shifted to the Civil Hospital, Hajipur, where he succumbed to his injuries. ASI Rakesh Kumar said the body handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.
