This was highlighted by Dr Sarabjit Kaur Rai, Principal of the college, while addressing the players at the ongoing women’s hockey coaching camp organised in collaboration with Round Glass Sports. The camp, which began on June 10, will continue until June 30.
Speaking at the event, Dr Rai expressed optimism about the future of women’s hockey in Punjab. “Women’s hockey in the state has a bright future and our college has consistently contributed to the development of the sport at both national and international levels,” she said.
A total of 36 women hockey players from different parts of Punjab are participating in the camp. These players represent a mix of sub-junior, junior and senior levels, ensuring a comprehensive development experience across age groups. The camp is designed to provide them with high-quality coaching and training facilities.
Dr Rai acknowledged the efforts of Round Glass Sports, which has taken a keen interest in the growth of women’s hockey in the region. She noted that it was due to their initiative that Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women was selected as a main centre for women’s hockey development in Punjab.
“Organisations like Round Glass Sports are the backbone of sports development today. Their partnership with our institution has already begun to yield positive results,” she added. She also credited the organisation for helping produce legendary players such as Asian Games gold medalist Rajbir Kaur and Olympian Gurjit Kaur, who have brought national pride to Indian hockey.
The ongoing camp is also receiving support from experienced coaches, with plans to invite Olympians and international players from the region to conduct training sessions and inspire young talent.
With structured training, professional coaching and strong institutional support, the camp aims to nurture a new generation of hockey stars from Punjab. The initiative is seen as a significant step forward in strengthening the foundation of women’s hockey in the state.
