Work collectively for holistic development of country: Kapurthala DC

Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Capt Karnail Singh unfurled the national flag at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Republic Day.

The Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by SSP Vatsala Gupta, also inspected the parade and took salute of the march past, led by DSP Jaspreet Singh. In his address, the DC said the state-of-the-art Government Medical College and Modern Hospital, equipped with ultra-modern healthcare facilities would start functioning shortly.

Speaking on Punjabis’ role in the country’s freedom struggle, Capt Karnail Singh said Punjabis made an immense contribution to get India independent. He said the nation was progressing in leaps and bounds as agri scientists, technical experts, farmers and industrialists were making all-out efforts in the overall development of the country, said the Deputy Commissioner adding that farmers made the country self-reliant in food security.

Referring to the state government’s development initiatives for Kapurthala, Capt Karnail Singh said setting up of a medical college and hospital would ensure far better healthcare services in the region. As many as 20 Aam Aadmi Clinics were operational in the district where more than 2.75 lakh people had availed of requisite healthcare services. He also appreciated the Punjab Government’s Sadak Surakhya Force endeavour stating that it is on the verge of start to curb road mishaps, besides ensuring smooth traffic across the state. He urged people to take a pledge to work collectively for holistic development and growth of the country as well as maintaining rich constitutional values.

The R-Day parade comprised of contingents, including Punjab Police (Men), Punjab Police (Women), Punjab Home Guards, bands of Punjab Police, Indian Army, NCC wings of Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia College, Sainik School, School of Eminence, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hindu Puttri Pathshala School and MGN Public School. As many as seven tableaux — School of Eminence, Powercom, Industries Department, Horticulture Department, Health Department, Agriculture and Fisheries departments – were displayed during the function. The tableaus of School of Eminence, Horticulture and Powercom were adjudged first, second and third, respectively. Students of Government Senior Secondary School, Clock Tower, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Hindu Kanya Collegiate School presented patriotic and cultural activities.
