Government Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar, hosted the 79th day of Yogotsav on Thursday. The event, “Countdown 100 to International Day of Yoga”, was held with the support of Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, under the aegis of Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.

The event started at 6 am with the chanting of mantras followed by vyayam, asanas and meditation.

Coaches of the Punjab Sports Department and around 500 students from schools and colleges in Jalandhar attended the early morning event.

The yoga event was followed by an academic seminar in which Dr Nidheesh Kumar Yadav, Associate Professor and Head of the Department, Yogananda School of Spirituality and Happiness, Shoolini University, delivered the keynote address on the topic, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. Lt (Dr) Ahmed Hussain, Associate NCC Officer (ANO), DAV University, Jalandhar and Vikas Mahajan, founder of Vivacious Yoga Centre in Jalandhar, also addressed the audience on the benefits of yoga.

Dr Ranbir Singh, Principal, Government Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar, welcomed the guests. “We are grateful that such a grand event was held in our college,” said Dr Ranbir Singh.

The guests were honoured with tokens of gratitude by the college who in turn congratulated the college for holding such a successful mega event in Jalandhar.
