Youth dead, mom hurt in Nawanshahr accident

The accident took place around 10:40 AM when a high-speed car, allegedly driven by Naveen Pandey of Uttar Pradesh, rammed into a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
The deceased has been identified as Sagar Kumar, a resident of Nawanshahr. According to a police complaint filed by Sagar’s mother Harmesh Kaur, she and her son were on their way for some personal work when the accident happened. “We were going on our bike when a Bolero came speeding from the Garhshankar side. The vehicle collided with the bike. Both of us fell on the road. Sagar was severely injured and I too sustained injuries,” Harmesh told police officials.
After the accident, the driver fled the scene, leaving the victims on the road. Locals rushed to their aid and emergency services were requisitioned. Sagar was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The Balachaur police have registered a case against the accused driver, under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) of the BNS. According to officials, efforts are ongoing to trace the accused, who is currently absconding.
Family members of the deceased have demanded strict action against the driver.
This tragic incident has again brought attention to the rising number of accidents attributed to rash and negligent driving. The authorities are urging drivers to follow traffic regulations and exercise caution to prevent such avoidable tragedies in the future.
The investigation is going on in the case. In April, four lives had been snuffed out in accidents because of rash driving.
