Giving information in this regard, Jalandhar Police Commissioner (CP) Dhanpreet Kaur said the Municipal Corporation had received information about an illegal construction of a notorious drug smuggler identified as Vishal, alias Chucha.

Acting promptly, the MC and police teams swung into action and demolished the structure on an encroached land, sending a strong message that drug-related activities would not be tolerated in Jalandhar city, the CP said.

She said the accused was a habitual offender, with four cases registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. “This action marks a significant step in dismantling the financial network of drug peddlers and ensuring accountability,” the CP said.

She said the campaign against drugs would gain momentum in the coming days, with both the police and the MC vowing strict measures against those involved in this menace. Notably, similar actions have been taken in the past, including demolition of illegal structures linked to drug traffickers in the Phillaur area, Dhankia Mohalla, Rama Mandi, Garha, Bhargav Nagar and Lohian.

The Commissionerate Police reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating drug menace from society and urged citizens to support their efforts in making Jalandhar a drug-free city.
