Actress Bhavika Sharma, who has a following of 1.4M on TikTok, shares, “I do it for fun. I make videos because I enjoy it and love seeing others.” However, the ban is okay with her. “First there is India and then is any other thing. If TikTok is banned, there are others social platforms that one can engage on. There is Instagram, Snapchat, Youtube; in fact, I am going to make my own channel on Youtube soon,” says Bhavika, who essays the role of a constable on the show Maddam Sir.

Anchor-actor Sahil Khattar says, “With TikTok, India’s favourite pastime is going. I say in Punjab TikTok created artistes in each gali.” Sahil also used TikTok to engage with fans, “See, one cannot reverse the ban but talent is not dependent on one platform, I for one would continue to create content; my observations about life would find expression through other modes.”

The flip side

On the other hand, TikTok star Priyanka has been feeling anxious, “To be honest, I don’t feel good. TikTok gave me an identity and without it I feel lost.” Ask her if she has any plans to re-invent and she says, “I have come on Instagram to connect with my followers, but it’s not the same.”

Meanwhile, worried about TikTokers losing heart, celebs from television, Punjabi music and film community posted encouraging words on social media. “Please don’t lose heart with TikTok ban,” urged Gurnam Bhullar. Ammy Virk too posted a video while sharing, “Don’t stress, don’t get depressed, things happen; those talented would find a way!” Social media celebrity Kusha Kapila urged everyone to be empathetic towards 30 million active TikTokers and show them the way.
