I am an old school person, says actress Ashmita Bakshi

• What is your role in Paurashpur?

I am playing the role of Umanglata, one of the queens, who is tortured by Raja Bhadrapatap of Paurashpur kingdom. From an innocent queen she becomes a rebel; she rebels along with other women of Paurashpur and fights for her rights.

• What makes the story of this show unique?

The look and feel of the show. It’s the first costume period drama on the web made at such a big level. It has shown women empowerment in a unique way, starting from patriarchy in that era, how women stand for themselves against a man-dominated kingdom. That’s what makes it unique.

• How is it working with the stellar cast?

When you have senior actors like Annu Kapoor, there’s so much to learn, just by observing. Everyone else, including Milind Soman, are such good actors. It was a great experience.

• It’s the first time you are going bold on screen, is that right?

Yes, I decided to go ahead because I loved my role and the script.

• Do you believe that doing bold scenes on screen is the new route to fame?

May be for some. It’s not the same for me. I just do my job. Fame is part of an actor’s job. So if they get fame by their jobs that’s quite fair.

• There is also a belief that bold scenes attract more audiences?

Not really because audience now is very clever and smart. They know which bold scenes are required and which are forced. So just putting bold scenes for the heck of it doesn’t work. It has to have a meaning to it and then the audience is gracious enough to accept it.

• What kind of shows or web series do you like to watch?

I love to watch love stories. I am an old-school person. Though I also like to watch shows like The Crown, Virgin River, Emily in Paris and Mirzapur also.
