The concept of the show! I believe we all have grey shades. This show works on that line. It’s a thriller and I am sure the audience will like it. The title is also apt as I always work according to my wish. I am very proud of Marzi and am waiting for Season 2.
How did you prep for this role?
We attended many workshops. That’s the only way I can prepare for a role, since I am not a method actor. Although I am playing a doctor, it is not so much about the profession, as it is about the relationship between a man and a woman. So, there wasn’t much that I could borrow from anywhere.
Marzi has some bold scenes. Did you have to convince your better half Manjiri?
Not at all. She is a progressive girl. Recently, I was reading a script and I found that there were some bold concepts. So, I gave it to Manjiri to read as I wanted to know her take. She was quite cool about it and liked the story. She didn’t even talk about the scene.
How important do you think a director’s role is in an actor’s career?
It’s all about the director’s vision. I give importance to new directors. All my successful films and TV shows had some amazingly talented directors and I have followed their vision. I do understand my director well.
After spending such a long time in the industry you still look fresh.
I think I have taken some good decisions. I never followed any formula. Honesty towards my craft and my dedication brought me where I am today. People are eager to know about my next step. I draw strength from my career. It’s been 16 years and I have still survived.
You generally keep away from publicity. Is it a conscious decision?
My wife sometimes insists that I wear designer clothes. But I prefer a pair of jeans and t-shirt. Why do I have to follow what others are doing? I don’t want to get trapped in this. I don’t want any bouncers for any of my events. I find that very silly. This is my personality. I don’t attend filmy parties and award functions.
You take long breaks between your projects. Why?
Because I am quite content with my work. Work is a part of my life and apart from that I have a life to live. I live a moderate lifestyle.
What keeps you busy if not shooting?
When I am not working, I usually travel with my wife. I have a house in Goa, where I do my own farming. I play instruments like harmonica, and sometime I just sit back and enjoy life.
