Disney Hotstar’s forthcoming series ‘The Empire’ has intrigued the viewers after the makers dropped the first trailer recently. The eight-episode series is based on Alex Rutherford’s bestselling ‘Empire of the Moghuls’ novels, a racy, fictionalised version of the history of the Moghul empire, which dominated South Asia from 1526 to 1720. Season 1 is based on the first novel and it follows the young prince Babur, whose father, the king of Ferghana, dies in an accident.

Kunal Kapoor plays the pivotal role of Babur. Other notable cast members include Shabana Azmi, Drashti Dhami, Dino Morea, Aditya Seal, Rahul Dev and more. Shot across India and Uzbekistan, The Empire is being touted as the biggest show ever created in India. It is being bankrolled by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani of Emmay Entertainment. The series is directed by Mitakshara Kumar, who has worked as an associate director on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epics Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat.
