With SRK, Diljit, Priyanka and Kiara living up to the theme ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’, India shone on the MET Gala blue carpet
Social media has been abuzz with pictures and videos of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, ever since he made his Met Gala debut on Monday (early Tuesday). From stealing attention with his all-black Sabyasachi look to leaving his charm on the iconic stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, New York, with his flying kisses, and, of course, his signature arm-stretch pose, SRK, aka King Khan, left no stone unturned to make fans go gaga over his first-time appearance at Met Gala.
For Shah Rukh’s Met Gala appearance, ace designer Sabysachi created a black floor-length elongated coat in Tasmanian superfine wool with monogrammed Japanese horn buttons. The coat is hand-canvassed, single breasted with a peak collar and wide lapels. Paired with a crepe de chine silk shirt and tailored superfine wool trousers. A pleated satin kamarbandh completed this bespoke look. SRK layered the outfit with a custom stack and complemented with The Bengal Tiger Head Cane crafted in 18 karat gold with tourmalines, sapphires, old mine cut and brilliant cut diamonds.
Meanwhile, a video showing SRK introducing himself during an interview on the blue carpet has also gone viral. “Hi, I’m Shah Rukh,” SRK humbly told the reporters stationed at the venue.”
From Kerala to Met
The steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art were transformed into a breathtaking blend of bold heritage and blooming elegance as the Met Gala 2025 unveiled a setting like no other.
The reportedly 63,000-square-foot blue carpet was accented by strewn daffodils, cascading floral barricades, and installations that shimmered with water and mirrored the hanging blooms above. The Kerala-based design house Neytt by Extraweave returned to fashion’s biggest stage, supplying the eco-conscious, biodegradable carpet for the third consecutive year. The carpet was woven from sisal fibres sourced from Madagascar. Neytt has been curating the carpet for the Met Gala since 2022.
Diljit rocks: Punjabi aa gaye oye!
Diljit Dosanjh made a regal debut at Met Gala 2025, winning the Kerala-woven blue carpet hands down and how! Dressed in a Prabal Gurung’s ivory and golden sherwani over tehmat, a sweeping cape and a bejewelled, feather-adorned turban, he indeed appeared as royal as regal. And, the centerpiece of this well-put-together look was the layered Patiala Necklace.
Reportedly, Dosanjh’s team tried to borrow the iconic 1,000 carat Cartier necklace for the night, pulling a Kim Kadarshian. Kadarshian made hearts go wild as she wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic 6,000 hand-sewn crystals’ sheer Happy Birthday dress in Met 2022, pulled from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum. Since that was not to be for actor-singer Dosanjh, Golecha’s Jewels’ layered Patiala Necklace, inspired by the Maharaja of Patiala Bhupinder Singh’s opulent collection, was the talk of the gala.
The request to loan the Patiala Necklace was refused on account of being too fragile. However, part of this iconic necklace—the choker—was loaned to American influencer Emma Chamberlain for her 2022 Met Gala look. Touted as the first turbaned Indian to have debuted on MET Gala, not just his looks but his demeanor too was regal! If Gurung dressed him well, interpreting the theme of Black Dandyism, replete with a sword and cape with Gurmukhi script and map of Punjab, Dosanjh worked in a close association with the designer to put together the look for Hollywood’s most fashionable night that’s going to be remembered for a long time.
Kiara flaunts her baby bump
Met Gala 2025 will always remain special for Bollywood actress Kiara Advani, as on Monday she made her debut at Hollywood’s biggest fashion night and publicly revealed her baby bump for the first time. Kiara opted for a custom couture creation by renowned Indian designer Gaurav Gupta. The look also paid homage to the late Andre Leon Talley, legendary fashion editor and Black icon, through a dramatic double-panelled cape—a nod to his iconic silhouettes and influence on the fashion world.
About her Met Gala debut, Kiara said, “Making my Met Gala debut at this point in my life, as both an artist and mother-to-be, feels incredibly special.”
Peecee rocks in polka dot
Fashion met nostalgia and haute couture as global star Priyanka Chopra Jonas graced the Met Gala carpet alongside husband and singer Nick Jonas. Chopra turned heads in a tailored polka dot suit dress, a bespoke creation by Olivier Rousteing of Balmain. Her ensemble was perfectly accented with dazzling high jewellery from Bvlgari, the luxury Italian house for which Chopra serves as a global ambassador, joining the ranks of stars like Zendaya and Anne Hathaway.
Madonna returns
Singer-songwriter Madonna returned to the Met Gala after seven years. Madonna was seen smoking a cigar while showing off her monochromatic look, which featured a satiny white suit topped with a boutonniere, a button-up top with a bow tie and lace gloves. The entire outfit came courtesy Tom Ford, and was designed by Haider Ackermann.
Zendaya engaged
Zendaya graced the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in an all-white ensemble. She donned a Louis Vuitton menswear-inspired suit, paired with a classic white fedora. Peeking through the spotlight was a dazzling piece of jewellery, the engagement ring from her fiance, Tom Holland.
Demi shines
Actress Demi Moore stunned on the Met Gala red carpet in a Thom Browne gown designed to resemble a man’s tie. The 62-year-old actress paired her unique look with black-and-white pom-pom heels, showcasing her impeccable style. The custom-made gown featured over 1.4 million beads, including 22,000 black rectangle sequins, 1,03,500 black cut beads, and 10,93,500 black bugle beads.
