Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal have appealed to residents to celebrate a safe and prosperous Diwali.
Officials said over 120 firefighters would remain on duty on Diwali night and all preparations had been completed to deal with any fire incident. Fire safety suits and other safety equipment had been provided to the firefighters.
As many as 30 fire tenders, including one turntable ladder (56-m height), rescue vans/tenders, mini-tenders among other machinery/equipment, have been deployed in the fire stations to tackle any fire incident. Generator sets have also been deployed at tube wells in different parts of the city for refilling the tenders during emergency and staff have been deputed as per requirements.
The MC Commissioner said in case, any fire incident was reported in the city, the firefighters were equipped with modern fire tenders and tool/machinery to deal with the incidents.
The Mayor and MC Commissioner further appealed to residents to not to keep hosiery material, waste clothes, furniture or any other flammable material on the roof of houses to avoid any fire incident during Diwali. The officials appealed to them to celebrate a safe and prosperous Diwali.
Besides the seven fire stations situated in different parts of the city, fire tenders would also be stationed at temporary stations that are additionally established in different parts of the city on Diwali night. It is done to reduce the reaction time, if any fire incident is reported in the city. The temporary stations would be established at Samrala Chowk, Sherpur chowk, Jalandhar Bypass, Model Town, etc.
