As many as 180 athletes of 16 schools participated in the two-day Sahodaya School Complex (East Zone) Khanna Athletics Meet hosted by Guru Nank Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha.

Harpratap Singh Brar, the chief guest of the inaugural day, exhorted the athletes to take active part in various sports activities, saying that India needs healthy and energetic youth to march ahead.

“A healthy mind can only reside in a healthy body. So, in order to achieve success, all students must enter the sports arena as it teaches the essential values of obedience, discipline, team spirit, determination, and above all grit to face life with a positive outlook,” he said.

The event started with flag hoisting, march past and oath taking after which the meet was declared open by the chief guest. On Day 1, students from the Under-14 and Under-17 (Girls) categories participated in various track and field events including 100m, 200m, 400m heats, 80m hurdles, 110m hurdles, long jump, and the 4×100m relay. In the U-14 category, Delhi Public School, Khanna, clinched the first position in long jump. The Superior World School showcased remarkable athletic prowess by securing the first place in both the 100m and 200m races. Oxford Senior School, Payal, earned the first position in the 80m hurdles. Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha, secured the first place in the 600m race and the 4×100m relay, and Tagore Global School, Samrala, came in first in the 400m event.

In the U-17 competitions, Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha, won the first position in long jump, 110m hurdles and 4×100m relay, while Sant Isher Singh Ji Memorial Public School, Rara Sahib, dominated the track by achieving the first place in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m races. Divanshi of Class VIII of Guru Nanak Model School secured the first position in the 600m race and the second position in the 400 m race in the U-14 Girls category. Sunehpreet Kaur secured the first position in 110m hurdles and first position in long jump in the U-17 category.

Day 2 featured 100m, 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m, 80m hurdles, 110m hurdles, long jump and 4×100m relay race for U-14 and U-17 Boys. In the U-14 category, Oxford International School secured the first place in the 80m race, while Sant Ishar Singh Ji Memorial School, Rara Sahib, aced the 400 m and 4x100m events. Garden Valley School, Machiwara, clinched the first positions in 100m, 200m, 600m and long jump.

Meanwhile, in the U-17 Boys category, Nankana Sahib School, Rampur, came in first in the 4x100m relay race and Sant Isher Singh Ji Memorial School, Rara Sahib, grabbed the first positions in 200m, 400m, 800m and 110m hurdles. Gaden Valley School, Machiwara, won the first position in the 100m race, while NPSS, Kalal Majra, grabbed the first spot in long jump.

The overall trophy was lifted by Sant Isher Singh Ji Memorial Public School while the runners-up position went to Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha. Garden Valley International School, Machiwara was placed third.

School Executive Administrator Roopinder Kaur Brar was the chief guest for the second day. She distributed the medals and certificates. School Management vice-president Pavittar Pal Singh Pangli, committee members Inder Singh, Harjiwanpal Singh Gill and Ravinder Singh Malhans were present.
