The police arrested two persons who forced a rape victim to compromise with the two rape accused by taking Rs 50,000 as compensation and later the accused also forcibly took away the compensation amount from the gangrape victim.

The arrested accused have been identified as Karamchand and Budh Ram.

The police said the gangrape victim was pressured to settle the case in lieu of Rs 50,000. The victim was also forced to sign an affidavit that she would not pursue the gangrape case. The accused have been arrested on an extortion charge.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
