A 25-year-old man and his one-and-half year old niece were killed when the roof of their house collapsed at Bhaura Colony on the city’s outskirts following heavy rains in the early hours of Saturday. Four members of the family were injured and were hospitalised at civil hospital. The incident happened when the family was sleeping in the house.

The deceased have been identified as Aruvi (18 months) and her uncle Nanku (25). Those injured include Aruvi’s father Vijay (32), his wife Madhu, and their two daughters Ossi (8) and Roshni (7). They are native of Bihar.

Vijay, an e-rickshaw driver, along with the family had been living at this rented accommodation for the past five years. At 3.30 am on Saturday morning, the roof of their room collapsed and family got stuck under the debris. Neighbours shifted the injured to civil hospital where two were declared brought dead. Salem Tabri police station launched further probe to inquire about the negligence, if any, of the landlord.
