Around 240 enthusiastic runners gathered for the third edition of the Sahnewal marathon, recently organised by the NLCI Institute and social worker Rashpal Singh.

Gulshan Kumar, the chief organiser, said that the marathon had been organised for the third consecutive year to spread awareness on health, skills and education among the youth of Sahnewal town. “The runners were divided into eight age-based categories: Four categories for men and four for women.

The marathon was flagged off by child specialist Shweta Goyal and Rashpal Singh. The participants were provided T-shirts while the winners were awarded cash prizes and medals.

Chairman of the market committee Hemraj Raji attended the event as a special guest. The chairman donated Rs 33,000 for the award ceremony and Rs 50,000 for the development of the ground of Government School Sahnewal, from where the event was flagged off.

The Morning Group, Sahnewal, also distributed three bicycles as prizes at the event. Ria Riyal, who has been participating regularly in the marathon, emerged the winner once again. She was gifted a bicycle. General secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress Lucky Sandhu also gave cash awards from his own side to the winners.
