3 deaths; 62 +ve in Ludhiana

Three persons lost their life to Covid, while 62 persons tested positive for it in Ludhiana district today, taking the death toll in the district to 926.
Those who lost their lives today included three men aged between 40 and 77. Two of them were admitted to Fortis Hospital, while one was admitted to Christian Medical College and Hospital. Out of the total people who tested positive, 33 were referred from flu corners, five each were contacts of positive persons and were referred from OPDs. Seven under-trials also tested positive, while the tracing of 10 was under progress.
Meanwhile, to formulate a strategy to conduct the first-of-its-kind massive Covid vaccination programme, the district administration has set up a 16-member district taskforce (DTF) for coronavirus vaccine committee headed by Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma.
The committee also comprises Commissioner of Police (CP) Ludhiana Rakesh Agrawal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC Development) Sandeep Kumar, Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga, besides District Immunisation Officer, District Programme Officer, District Education Officer Elementary and Secondary, District Public Relations Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, representatives from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Nehru Yuva Kender, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and World Health Organisation (WHO), Commander NCC and coordinator NSS.
Addressing the first meeting held at Bachat Bhawan today, Deputy Commissioner Sharma said the vaccination process was expected to start in the coming weeks and in the first phase, all healthcare workers from government and private hospitals would be administered the vaccine.
He directed the officials concerned to register the names of all healthcare beneficiaries on a website so that they could get themselves vaccinated in the first phase.
Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga informed the Deputy Commissioner that the Health Department had registered names of around 15,000 healthcare workers in the district and the process of uploading the names of the beneficiaries was on.
Dr Bagga said they had set up 67 cold chain points and had adequate number of ice lined refrigerators (ILRs) and deep freezers in the district to preserve the vaccine in the required temperature.
He said there would be 805 session sites where vaccines would be administered to the beneficiaries in the district. He said 442 ANMs in the district would administer the vaccine to the beneficiaries and 43 supervisors had been deputed to monitor the vaccination process.
