The deceased identified as Sukhpal Singh (35) of Ghungran village in Ludhiana district, his wife Sukhdeep Kaur (32) and only son Baljot Singh (9), took the drastic step due to fast mounting debt burden.

According to officials, Sukhpal had started fabricating elevators at small scale by availing loans from various sources. It is alleged that persistent pressure from lending agencies abetted the couple to take the extreme step.

Deceased’s cousin Jatinder Pal Singh Babbu said the tragedy has left the family in deep shock. “What is more shocking for us is how my cousin and his wife dared to take their son along with them for the most tragic fate,” he added.

The family had parked their car near the railway crossing before jumping before the train.
