Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsThree weeks after an unidentified caller threatened Shiv Sena national president Amit Arora, a Hindu leader, the police are yet to ascertain the identity of the subscriber of the phone number from which the threatening call was made on October 7.
Upset over the inaction of the police towards his security, Arora has demanded a probe into alleged failure of the police in identifying the caller. “It is disgusting that instead of taking the threat call seriously and enhancing my security, the police is asking me to restrict my movements and not visit Taran Taran for taking part in the campaign for the by-elections,” said Arora, adding that he would soon meet the Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma to seek action in the matter.
Investigating Officer Balwinder Singh said efforts were being made to identify the caller with the help of technical and human support. However, details of the subscriber’s phone number and registered owner of the device used in crime were yet to be uncovered.
Having registered an FIR after receiving a complaint on October 8, the police had initiated a probe into the allegations made by Arora against the unidentified caller having issued him death threats.
The caller, who posed as the brother of Bhagwanpuria, a gangster, had allegedly warned Arora against making negative remarks against Sikh MP Amritpal Singh, who is also the president of Akali Dal Waris Punjab De.
“Claiming to be the brother of Bhagwan Puria, the suspect threatened to get me eliminated (teri game laga devange) in case I did not stop speaking against Amritpal Singh,” said Arora, claiming that he had not uttered any derogatory words against MP Amritpal that could prompt the caller to threaten him.
Arora had told the investigating officers that he had survived several attacks in the past as he was a witness in some terrorist cases. His cases were under investigation with National Investigating Agency, New Delhi.
