The BJP has criticised today’s demonstration by AAP ministers, MLAs, and party workers in Chandigarh, outside the BJP’s state office over issues related to the procurement of paddy crops.

“The protest was a public display of incompetence, irresponsibility, and inexperience of the AAP government in Punjab,” said BJP’s Punjab unit general secretary Anil Sarin.

He said the Central Government had already allocated around Rs 42,000 crore to the Punjab Government for procuring paddy from farmers. He emphasised that tasks like storage, lifting and transportation fall under the responsibilities of the state government.

Sarin further mentioned that last year, the Central Government had sanctioned the project for preparing an additional storage of 31 lakh metric tonnes of food grains in Punjab. However, the state government had not even floated tenders for the same, which is resulting in current issues, he said. He also criticised the hybrid variety of rice introduced by the Punjab Government, stating that it has a lower yield, leading to losses for rice millers.
